wipeoutI LOVE WIPEOUT!  I would rock the face off this show.

Hope.

August 26th, 2009

knowing-posterPeople need hope.  Without it, what is there to look forward to?

Watched “Knowing” Last night.  Another appacalyptic movie.  Spoiler alert: The world ends, but aliens save a boy and a girl and bring them to a new world somewhere to repopulate it…

Fascinated by one of the comments made in one of the extra features: concerning “hope.”   “I think the alien mythology offer humans a great deal of hope.  Hope of human survival against a backdrop of a planet that seems to be doomed weather because of nuclear annihilation,  environmental degregation, government indifference to our problems… Whatever it is that is bad here on earth, the aliens are going to come and pluck us here off the earth and somewhere, somehow in some far away place, human beings are going to survive and live on….”

Still can’t tell if this lady was serious or not.

A better hope: 1 Tim 4:9-10

Location Announced

August 25th, 2009

jr highStill a survivor fan after all these years.  Love the part where they are voted off the island.  Except KingsWay just got voted off the island (new policies by Little Miami School District).  Hamilton Maineville Elementary will be a distant memory on September 6.

So, September 13, we’ll hold our first service at Little Miami Jr. High school, just in time for our Launch the following week!  5290 Morrow Cozaddale Rd, Morrow, Ohio 45152

The Launch

August 19th, 2009

Who will you invite?  Who among your friends might benefit from re-thinking their thoughts on chruch so that they can re-discover who God is?   (Did you know that 86% of people visit a church for the first time because of a personal invitation by a friend?)  Sure, we’ll advertise a bit, but who will YOU bring on September 20?

Location…location…location

August 18th, 2009

hereScouted some new locations for our Sunday morning gathering space.  Little Miami Schools is no longer allowing outside groups to meet on Sunday at their elementary schools.  We’ll still have a few more weeks at Hamilton-Maineville, but then we’ll be moving.     I remember Rick Warren talking about how many times Saddleback moved before they bought land…. dozens and dozens and dozens of times (79 in total).  He quipped that Saddleback was a great church– if you could find it.  But the good news…We think we may have found a suitable place.  Announcement soon with details….

Rethinking “Holiness?”

August 13th, 2009

Holiness is one of those words that scares people.  And me. It’s a superspiritual word that just means perfect, pure, set apart or “good.”  Many many many times in the bible God tells us to “be holy.” The problem is that for years, I’ve tried. You’ve tried, too probably.  We’ve both failed and it’s frustrating.  Are we searching for the elusive (and non-existent) unicorn? How can God ask us to achieve something that is unachievable. That is so mean.

As KingsWay launches, our launch theme is going to be centered around the word “re,” as in “rethink,” “rediscover” or ”reimagine”  etc, your thoughts on God (and church).  In reading Leviticus this morning, I encountered a life changing, recalibrating, paradigm breaking idea for some people.  Leviticus 21:15 reads “I am the Lord, who makes [you] holy.”

There it is–that word “holy” again.  But reconsider, for a moment, the source of holiness. Here, holiness seems like something given to me rather than something I earn.  If God makes someone holy, then what is my role?  Do I not have to work for it?  (Admit it, you’ve worked for it and tried hard, hence the guilt when you fall short).

Ephesians says “it is by grace you have been saved (read: been made holy, good, sanctified) through faith, not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Rethinking holiness just might change everything.

Be ready to rethink some things about God (and church) on September 20.  Be at our “grand opening.”
