KW’s practicing John 13/Genesis 12 (again!). As a church, we want to serve the community (and the world). We believe we’re blessed to be a blessing.
Pumped about Operation Christmas Child. Concept is simple. We buy toys for children. We send the toys to children around the world to open on Christmas. Want to participate? Get those presents to KW by Nov 8! Need more info on what to buy for these children? Click Here

KW’s is practicing some serious servanthood this month. We’re 10 families adopted who have requested assitance from a local food pantry. We’re taking John 13 for real.
November 1st. Food Drive. 1pm-3pm. We’re walking the community to help us collect food to feed these 10 adopted families as well as re-stock a local food pantry.
November 8th. Ditto. Same time. We’ll walk a different community.
November 18th. Women are organizing and decorating baskets full of food for these families.
November 23. Monday. Deliveries to families in in evening. Want to come?
Worship. Grow. Send.
Have you been sent lately?

It’s the nature and character of God to reach down and touch a broken humanity. ie, Mark 1:41.

New Series coming up starting October 18. We’re calling it “What Would Jesus Tweet?” Silly title, but makes you think, I think. I’m not even sure if Jesus would use twitter if here were walking around the earth… but if he did… what would he say (in 140 characters or less) to those who “followed him?” What would he most want us to know about him and what he was up to? Find out Oct 18. Invite a friend.

I’m a big conference fan. New ideas. Inspiration. Networking. Reconnecting with people again who I haven’t seen in a while. Looking forward to our Annual Gathering where David Putman will be speaking! (Also excited that priceline gave me a hotel room where the conference is being held for half off!)

Talked about Christ-likeness today and what that means. Romans 8:29 says For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son.
I reflected a bit on what it might look like to be like Jesus:
1)A white-hot love for God.
2)A sold-out commitment to God’s Kingdom Purposes.
3)An eagerness to forgive.
Check out This guy. He’s taking Christ-likeness seriously, trying to live exactely like Jesus for a year. See his Interview with ABC News HERE

At KingsWay, we have a deep desire to communicate the life changing message of Jesus to people who are far from him. So in one of our mail pieces that we sent out to the community we crafted a communication piece that was intended to pique the curiosity and attention of those who have either 1) given up on church (and God) or 2) never really gave either a chance. Here it is:

On the back, it says”perhaps you think church is boring, irrelevant,” etc. “We know how you feel. We want to help change your view on church because we want to help change your view on God,” etc.
It’s an agressive approach and not without controversy. To be clear: we believe that many people have exceptional church experiences and do not think that church is boring! We are thrilled if that is the case. However, some people have had a different experience in their life.
Our intentions were good but did we cross a line?

In the past few years, some significant research has been done on the subject of spiritual growth. The results are published in a series of three books called “Reveal.” Many interesting discoveries in the series but two in particular:
1) The church must teach people to become ”self feeders”, that is, responsible for their own spiritual growth vs. relying on the chruch to put on a “program.” This is especially true as people grow more and more “mature” in their faith. “People need to move from dependance on the church to a growing interdependent partnership with the chruch.”
2) The most important catalyst for spiritual growth is…..the Bible. “The Bible’s power to advance spiritual growth is unrivals by anything else we’ve discovered.” It’s not just skimming the passage and “reading” for the sake of getting it done… it’s REFLECTION on the scripture as it relates to my life. It’s interesting–the greatest way to grow spiritually often rests 18 inches from us face every night as we sleep, often gathering dust on our bookshelf(s). Have you read it lately..and REFLECTED on it? Heb 4:12.

Growth Group are starting soon! Sign up this Sunday at our Growth Groups table!
Growth Groups are an integral part of our vision to help people grow in their faith (and build community, aka, get to know people). We feel so strongly about the importance of getting in a group that we intentionally keep our church calendar simple so that no other events are competing for your time and attention. Read more about Growth Groups in our church newsletter, The Crossroads.
Worship. GROW. Send.
