At KingsWay, we have a deep desire to communicate the life changing message of Jesus to people who are far from him. So in one of our mail pieces that we sent out to the community we crafted a communication piece that was intended to pique the curiosity and attention of those who have either 1) given up on church (and God) or 2) never really gave either a chance. Here it is:
On the back, it says”perhaps you think church is boring, irrelevant,” etc. “We know how you feel. We want to help change your view on church because we want to help change your view on God,” etc.
It’s an agressive approach and not without controversy. To be clear: we believe that many people have exceptional church experiences and do not think that church is boring! We are thrilled if that is the case. However, some people have had a different experience in their life.
Our intentions were good but did we cross a line?
Yes, a line was crossed. The Lord said in His Word that we should put away “filthy communication.” This not only does not practice this, but promotes quite the opposite.
