Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, 1789

November 26th, 2009

THANKSGIVING DAY 1789–BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA – A PROCLAMATION
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor – and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be – That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks – for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation – for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war –for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed – for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us. -Abraham Lincoln

The Church’s central task…

The Gospel

November 23rd, 2009

“The Gospel has been described as a pool in which a toddler can wade and yet an elephant can swim.  It is both somple enough to tell to a child and yet profound enough for the greatest minds to explore.” – Tim Keller

Boxes and Baskets

November 21st, 2009

KingsWay has been busy doing some great things: 51 Shoeboxes have been sent around the world with toys for children to open on Christmas Day, (under the organization Operation Christmas Child)! Food for 15 Thanksgiving Baskets have been collected for local families who have requested assistance during this thanksgiving season. The womens ministry is packing all that food and making it look nice (see pictures). Anyone want to help deliver these basekts on Monday (11/23) to this families? It’s going to be awesome.

Boxes+Baskets=massive blessing for people in our community (and around the world). Great Job KingsWay! This defines being a church that is externally focused!

Making Disciples…

November 20th, 2009

“There exists in every church something that sooner of later works against the very purpose for which it came itno existence.  So we must strive very hard, by the grace of God, to keep the church focused on the mission that Christ originally gave it.” C.S. Lewis.

We’re seaching dilligently for a place to worship on Sundays–so start praying.  We’ll keep you posted.

global or local?

November 9th, 2009

The debate has gone on for decades, centuries even, since William Carey and Adoniram Judson (and others) set sail for foreign lands with the gospel.  In the American Church, at least, this has always cause the question: “why go overseas with the gospel when there is so much need in our own backyard?”  Some churches are global missions heavy, while ignoring their neighbors, others are so neighborhood focused that they miss what God is doing overseas. Check out Five Reasons Missional Churches Don’t Do Global Missions– and How to Fix It, an article by Ed Stetzer on his views.
