global or local?

The debate has gone on for decades, centuries even, since William Carey and Adoniram Judson (and others) set sail for foreign lands with the gospel.  In the American Church, at least, this has always cause the question: “why go overseas with the gospel when there is so much need in our own backyard?”  Some churches are global missions heavy, while ignoring their neighbors, others are so neighborhood focused that they miss what God is doing overseas.
