A long-time question of Christians has to do with cultural engagement: How can Christians be “in the world,” but not “of the world?” Should Christians influence culture? Should Christians retreat from culture and be separate? Check out this video message by Andy Crouch, offering his take. Brought to you by the Q Conference.

Today, we got really practical in our “Going Green” series and talked about the importance of a “good plan” to get out of debt, stay out of debt, and set up a budget. Remember, Proverbs 21:5: ”Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.”
Here are the resources that I find helpful and that I promised you today: (These come from Willow Creek’s “Good Sense” Ministry)
Spending Plan (Setting up a Budget) Notice the percentages in each category and see how yours compare.
Debt Reduction Plan (Getting out of Debt)
Bonus:Spending Record (if you don’t use Quicken (or other program) and want to know where your money went.

On Sunday, I introduced the 90 day Tithe Challenge. I asked people who want to take the challenge (or have tithed for a long time) to send me stories of God’s faithfulness and blessing because of the decision to tithe. The testimonies are pouring in. Each week for the next 90 days (88 days now), I’ll share some of the stories– this is really an exciting challenge and might be revolutionary as KingsWay people begin to obey God in ALL areas of their lives.
It’s interesting– the reaction you get when the church talks about money. Some hate it, some love it. There is a popular perception that people don’t want to hear about God’s plan of tithing, but the reality is that the only people who don’t like tithing messages are the Christians who don’t tithe! Disobedience alwasy makes peopel feel uncomfortable.
This week, our “Go Green” Series will continue–and upon inspiration from Bob Franquiz (who the tithe challenge idea came from) we’re going to talk about a very practical issue of finances: getting out of debt and getting on a budget so that we can be finacially free. I almost feel guilty how practical this message is going to be. But then again, God is a practical God.

I’ve made it to the 100th post! Just thought I’d celebrate for a minute. I orignally started this blog as sort of a news/leadership filter and a behind the scenes look at the happenings at KingsWay. I hope it’s been helpful.
Here are some other blogs I find extremely intersting and helpful when it comes to the local church:

There are many more, of course, but these are great fodder for local church leadership.

We’re in a series called “Going Green” and I’m inviting people to take the 90 day Tithe Challenge. Actually, God is inviting people to take the tithe challenge. In Malachi 3:10, God says:
”Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me.
”But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’
”In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,” says the LORD Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the LORD Almighty.
The essence of the tithe challenge is to “test God” and see if God won’t “throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you won’t have room for it.” Many people have taken the challenge– this is going to be an amazing 90 days!
If you are a tither, I’m intersted in knowing your story: how has God “opened the floodgates of heaven” as you have been faithful to him in the tithe? email me: adam (at) mykingsway (dot) net
